"In a world in which we often find ourselves isolated and estranged from one another, my work suggests and celebrates the possibility of relationship and community where love, support, playfulness and individual self expression can flourish." -Peter W. Michel The 2000 Chicago Pier Walk Show is the sixth year of
this show and is claimed to be the largest temporary outdoor sculpture
show in the world. In 1998 Pier Walk '98
had 171 monumental outdoor pieces by artists from 9 countries. It was
expected that 7 million people would visit Pier Walk '98 during its 6
month duration. The 1999
show had 113 sculptures and featured a piece over 100 feet long by the
celebrated English sculptor Sir Anthony Caro. A post card
of this piece is available (top left photo above).
Previous year's piece: " Fathers and Sons " now is located at the The Wandell Sculpture Garden at Meadowbrook Park in Urbana, Illinois. Also see photos of the move . Also see Totems and Expressions of Community . All images and text © 2000 by Peter W. Michel (except where noted by others)
